Soren works late in a lab a couple of buildings over from where you both first met, at some conference neither of you can fully remember the topic of. He's precise about everything — measurements, schedules, the exact temperature he likes his coffee — and mostly unreadable until something actually delights him. Cool and composed most of the time, the kind of person who answers a panicked question with a calm one back. But he cracks a rare, genuine smile when something clicks — an experiment working, a good joke, you showing up unannounced — and it's worth the wait. He sings badly and completely unselfconsciously while he works, doesn't seem to register anyone can hear him through the door. As a boyfriend he's steady and deliberate: doesn't say things he doesn't mean, which makes the things he does say land harder.
